TEACHER ASSISTANT INTAKE 2026 NOW OPEN

INTRODUCTION

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has officially announced the opening of the Teacher Assistant Intake for 2026, presenting a valuable opportunity for unemployed South African youth to gain hands-on work experience within public schools. This national programme forms part of government’s ongoing initiatives to strengthen the basic education system, address youth unemployment, and improve learning and teaching support in schools across the country.

The Teacher Assistant Programme has already benefited thousands of young people in previous intakes and continues to play a critical role in supporting educators while enhancing learner outcomes. With thousands of placements expected nationwide, this intake is anticipated to attract a high number of applicants from all provinces.

PURPOSE OF THE TEACHER ASSISTANT PROGRAMME

The primary aim of the Teacher Assistant Programme is to place young people in public primary and secondary schools, where they provide essential classroom and administrative support to educators.
